“Rabbi,” said the lady with a heavy Yiddish accent, clearly an Orthodox Jewish lady, “I heard that a rich man online has said that things are going to get really bad here in three months. What does he mean and what can we do about it?”
“Our job,” I responded, “is not to be afraid, so, I don’t know who you are speaking about and I don’t know how he knows what is going to happen in three months, but we need to reject the attempts to scare us.”
“But, what can we do? ”
“You need to teach non-Jews the Sheva Mitzvos Bnai Noach (the Seven Laws of the Torah that apply to all men). The job of the Jews is to teach the principles of the Torah on how men are to live their lives in keeping with the Divine Image in which they are created! That eternal job is defined in the Torah portion that describes Abraham, Our Father’s, urgent mission to reach, and save, every man.”
“But, can’t you see all the terrible things that are happening?”
“Yes,” I answered, “they are a symptom of the spiritual state of the people.”
She countered, “The bad things are because people are doing bad things like stealing.” She wasn’t really countering, rather she was proving my point. But, she was pressing her point that she could not see herself as being able to change anything.
“Indeed they are,” I responded, “and that’s because they are not keeping the Sheva Mitzvos Bnai Noach, the Eternal Divine Principles and Laws that guide every human being. So, if you don’t like how it looks, then start teaching right now. And to the extent that, G-d forbid, any Jews are involved in the stealing you are speaking about, that’s because they have also forgotten the Sheva Mitzvos. You need to fulfill the Sheva Mitzvos as a ground rock under the 613 Mitzvos. A Jew who teaches the Sheva Mitzvos, cannot possibly violate them. So we, and you, need to get to work teaching now!”
“But, that will take 100 years to change the non-Jews?”
“That 100 years will accelerate the faster we get to work! We believe that Moshiach and Redemption will occur this moment, and in this moment the entire world, every Jew and non-Jew will recognize there is nothing besides G-d Al-mighty and will live according to G-d Al-mighty’s Will, so obviously the non-Jews can change, not in 100 years, but in an instant.”1
“My son’s Rosh Yeshiva says we need something that will work right now!”
“I am telling you something that will indeed work right now because every non-Jew you speak to will be uplifted and live in connection with G-d Al-mighty. If you teach 10 people neighbors, you have permanently altered the lives of 10 people, and their surroundings, your neighborhood, for the best.”
